Cheating While on the Medifast Diet
There is a debate going on over at the My Medifast Diet community on whether anyone is planning to cheat during the upcoming holiday season and whether cheating on your diet is okay.
Personally I feel that the word "cheat" is a little harsh. I like to refer to it as "off plan" vs. "on plan" regardless of whether I pre-planned it or not. I also feel that it is an individual decision based on a person's own goals and where they are within their goal if they decide to go off plan.
For myself I have a goal to lose as much as I can (healthy, of course) before mid January 2007, and when I started the Medifast Diet, I knew that the holidays would fall within that timeframe. I made the decision then to stick as close to "on plan" as possible during the holiday season.
I didn't start Medifast just to lose weight. I've done that countless times before in the last 30 years. I started Medifast to learn how to cope in a world obsessed with food (It's not just us overweight people, folks!) and to learn how to deal with it in my own personal and business life. Obviously I don't deal with it as well as others but obesity is a growing concern across the United States, so I'm not alone in keeping my weight issues under control.
I have friends who maintain a healthy weight who overeat occasionally, but they get right back on track and don't overeat again for weeks or months. Of course, I also have friends who are thin and who obsess about their weight far more than I have over the years. In my opinion, their obsession about staying thin at any cost is just as much an issue as me learning to pay attention to what I eat, why I eat, and how much I eat.
I'm hoping that some day I have the skill and commitment to rationally (not obsessively) maintain a healthy weight for myself and I'm hoping that Medifast Diet will be bringing me closer to that process. So far I've been very impressed with what I have learned on the Medifast Diet, and I never dreamed that in 5 weeks I would have lost nearly 20 pounds.
