Exercising While on the Medifast Diet
Medifast recommends that if you are not exercising when you start the Medifast plan that you wait for a few months so that your body adjusts to consuming fewer calories.
I was walking prior to starting the Medifast Diet in October 2006 so I have continued throughout the plan. I walk six days a week at a moderate pace for 40 minutes with my dogs in a remote area so they can run off leash. We usually see another couple who has two dogs also. So we walk, talk and the dogs play together. I usually take along my iPod and listen to audio podcasts, radio shows or audio books.
On days I cannot walk due to recovering from plantar fasciitis, I use a recumbent stationary bike. The recumbent style stationary bike is easier on my back (herniated disk) because it has a straight back and wider seat than a stationary bike that forces the body to bend over. The recumbant style was recommended by my chiropractor and since I'm obese anyway, it feels much less stressful on my body.
If you are shopping for a stationary bike, I highly recommend the recumbent style. Here are my Top 5 picks. I have the first one listed below. The good news is that all of the exercise bikes are priced at less than $200 which is an excellent price for the value and not to mention the comfort which is really important to any exercise routine. If I'm comfortable doing the exercise, I'm more likely to stay with the routine.
