Misinformation Regarding Medifast

Nothing bothers me more than reading product reviews by people who have never tried the product. With that said, let me say that I realize my emotions are all over the map in light of my brother's recent death but I just can't let this article which is misinforming the public about Medifast go without commenting.

> Looking at the Medifast Diet --- Is it Really Healthy? - URL no longer works (see UPDATE section below)

UPDATE: 2.10.2007 ... Since I published this blog entry, the article which provided misinformation has been removed from the website. I suspect that the owner of the website realized that the review on Medifast was completely incorrect when they had dozens of Medifast Dieters who are actual users of the diet leaving complainting comments. This pleases me simply because I hated the thought of someone reading the misinformation in the article and taking even a small portion of it seriously. Thus perhaps resulting in not trying the program when Medifast could have really helped them in becoming healthier.

Since I couldn't effectively post my comments on the site where this article was published, you'll find my entire response to this author below:

With all due respect to the author of this article, how can you effectively review any product if you have never tried it and if you yourself (as the reviewer) do not have a substantial amount of weight to lose? Medifast is not for people who need to lose a couple pounds here and there. The people who successfully lose weight are those who are significantly overweight.

The mentality that losing weight too fast (as the author implied in reference to Medifast) is bad for "everyone" is not true. Not "everyone" needs to lose the same amount of weight and not "everyone" has the same health issues. For someone who is 100 pounds or more overweight, losing 1-2 pounds a week would take far too long. In the meantime their health would continue to deteriorate and they would get discouraged far too quickly. Isn't that one of the biggest reasons most diets fail? It's not necessarily the diet, but becoming discouraged. The other reason as we all know is not following up with a maintenance plan after losing the weight which Medifast does provide.

If you had researched, or better yet, tried the program you would also have found that Medifast does encourage exercise after the body has adjusted to the new way of eating and strongly suggests that anyone on the program be monitored by a doctor (since as we know - everyone's needs are different). You would also have found that Medifast is recommended by more than 15,000 physicians and there are proven studies of the plan's effectiveness that were done by John Hopkins.

I should also note that the price for one-month supply of Medifast is far less expensive financially than 4-weeks of junk food and the decision of what to eat has already been made for me. I can also rest assured that I am eating healthy, balanced meals.

I've been on the Medifast diet since October 9, 2006 and have lost 51 pounds. I'm healthier than I've ever been in my life and have so much energy, I'd give some of it away if I could. I am determined that what I am learning (good nutrition for life and the awareness of my past bad habits) while on Medifast will change my life forever. I am already seeing significant health improvements. If I were losing 1-2 pounds a week I'd still be having foot/back/knee problems and would probably have quit whatever meal plan I was trying.

For anyone who wants a review of the Medifast Diet from the perspective of an actual Medifast customer is welcome to visit my Medifast Blog at http://www.defragged.com where you will find information about my experiences on Medifast, my progress photos, and many Medifast related recipes, resources and tips.

Again, with all due respect to the author of this article, I write this comment solely to correct any misinformation printed about this wonderful program that obviously has high potential to change a person's life in a positive manner by promoting good health, weight loss and nutrition. I'd hate for anyone to judge the Medifast diet solely based on misinformation and thus lose the opportunity to become healthy.
