Reorganizing My Kitchen
Part of my commitment to losing weight and keeping it off is reorganizing my life to help ensure that old habits don't return. One strategy to change my eating lifestyle was to reorganize my kitchen to make room for healthy foods, countertop appliances and kitchen tools that I'll need beyond the Medifast maintenance phase.
I started my kitchen reorganization project in the fall season of 2006 when I cleaned out a number of kitchen cabinets, threw out all unhealthy foods, replaced my metal bakeware with silicone bakeware, and reorganized all my kitchen utensils and tools.
There was so much more I wanted to do. But my motivation to complete the project took a back burner until now. A few weeks ago, our refrigerator started to show signs of failure, so in order to be proactive we made an emergency trip to the appliance store last weekend and purchased a new frig. While there we decided this would be the best time to replace the range which hasn't worked right for several years, and the store was offering a discount price if we purchased two or more appliances.
A new range and refrigerator will be delivered today and I suspect this will create one of those remodeling snowball effects. I'm sure you know what I mean. Once you add a new major household item, remodel, redecorate or revamp one thing, you start seeing many other things in the home that you'd like to change. Expensive ... yes. But making a commitment to a new and better lifestyle will always be expensive, but just once - the first time.
If the snowball effect occurs in our home due to the new appliances, it might help take my mind off my brother's sudden recent death and help me burn off all this Medifast energy I'm feeling. It will certainly help me move closer to a healthier me for the rest of my life. Despite the sadness I feel at times, the future looks bright and I look forward to what lies ahead.
There are many ways to reorganize your kitchen though to make it Medifast friendly without high costs. You can do what I did last fall. Go through all of your kitchen cabinets, pantry, drawers, closets, etc. and get rid of the things you won't be using during the weight loss and throughout the maintenance plan on Medifast. I gave a lot of food away and have boxes of kitchen items in my basement waiting to be taken to Goodwill or sold in a spring garage sale.
Out with the old to make room for the new is what I kept in mind when I reorganized my kitchen. After all, I am experiencing a new body and will be living a new lifestyle because of my Medifast weight loss. It only makes sense to remove any of the bad habit triggers and create a Medifast friendly kitchen that helps the food preparation process go smoothly, quick and convenient. I'd rather spend a little cash to make my food preparation process more convenient than reach for that convenience food that got me into trouble in the first place.
So if I'm away from my keyboard for awhile or not blogging as often, you'll know what happened to me. I'll be standing in the middle of a snowball effect in my kitchen, but enjoying every minute of it. :)
