Traveling with Medifast, Day 2
My second day in Vegas brought more surprises but from a tourist's point of view it was the most enjoyable because it led to an eye-opening experience about my own health.
Breakfast my second day in Vegas consisted of a vegetable omelet made from Egg Beaters. It was in fact the only thing on the menu that I could eat. Since I had already decided to eat according to the Medifast 4 and 2 plan if I needed to while in Las Vegas, that is what I did the first day but soon found out that it was necessary every day as you'll soon read why.
Omelets were on just about every restaurant breakfast menu I visited in Vegas, and we walked up to and read many restaurant menus while we were there. I always asked for Egg Beaters for breakfast which wasn't a problem and I chose Medifast vegetables for the omelet: tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, green peppers and onions.
The rest of the day I ate my Medifast Muffins, Chicken Cracker, and a Medifast bar. I splurged on one ounce of almonds which is an approved Medifast snack. Up until this day I have not eaten any nuts while on Medifast so it was a nice little treat for me while my husband ate his cheesecake - argh!
Finding an appropriate Lean and Green meal this day was equally if not more difficult. I really did not expect to have such trouble finding lean meat in Vegas and especially since the buffets are filled with all kinds of foods - all either high fat or high calorie.
We checked a number of different restaurant menus and finally ended up at the Excalibur buffet where I found several lean meats I could eat but very few Medifast approved vegetables. I ended up eating 1/2 cup of green beans which I picked from a green bean/carrot dish, about 3 ounces of beef steak, 3 ounces of shrimp cocktail and 3 ounces of white fish. I went over my Lean portion of the day but my Green portion was severely lacking.
Medifast Lesson Learned: Prior to departing on a trip, check the websites of the restaurants in the area. Many restaurants are now publishing their menus on the web. I wish I had thought of this sooner so as not to waste so much time.
From a tourist's perspective I did enjoy the Human Body Exhibit at the Tropicana. It was the highlight of my day actually and in a strange, unexpected way, it was an eye opening experience to my own health. In case you didn't know, this exhibit shows several preserved human bodies with their organs exposed. I thought it might gross me out or be difficult to look at, but I found it fascinating to see how the organs work together.
One exhibit compared a lung of a smoker to a non-smoker. Let me tell you, if I hadn't quit smoking 10 years ago, I would have right there. I was disappointed though that they did not show a body of an obese person like me. That would have really sent a permanent message of better health to my brain. If you ever get the chance to see this exhibit, you won't be sorry. At first it seemed disrespectful to the dead, but by the time I finished the exhibit three hours later, I understood how much information these courageous people were giving back to the human race about their own bodies.
My second day in Vegas was another long day and my feet and back were aching badly. I was seriously worried my plantar fasciitis might creep back on me. I was also still feeling a little dizzy at times and I now know it was due to dehydration. I simply cannot drink so little water without my body complaining.
Medifast Tip: After two days of drinking little water, I started to carry a 16-oz. bottle of water in purse. At night before I went to bed, I drank 3 to 4 hotel-sized glasses of water which caused me to have to get up several times during the night, but it certainly helped with the dizziness.
